Earlier this year, Montreal-based electronic art-rock duo Valleys signed with Kanine Records, and now their album Are You Going To Stand There And Talk Weird All Night? is here. Before the collection officially drops on April 30, you can stream the whole thing ahead of time on Exclaim.ca.
Band members Marc St. Louis and Matilda "Tillie" Perks reportedly suffered personal losses in the lead-up to the album, and the record is inspired by those experiences. They share vocal, instrumental and lyrical duties, with Tillie's lyrics focusing on the loss of family members and Marc's songs emphasizing heartbreak.
Much of the album features cinematic synths and mope-pop vocals, and this occasionally shifts into white-noise abrasiveness, particularly during songs like "See the Moon" and the shoegazing "Us."
