Valleys Sign to Kanine Records for New Album, Premiere Track
By Josiah HughesMontreal duo Valleys have impressed us a few times with performances in their hometown (see here and here), but they have now made a substantial step up, as the group have announced that they have signed to New York imprint Kanine Records.

The label, which has also worked with the likes of Grizzly Bear, Surfer Blood and Oxford Collapse, will issue Valleys' new album, Are You Going To Stand There And Talk Weird All Night, on April 30.

According to a press release, the record sees members Tillie Perks and Marc St. Louis coping with different kinds of loss through their lyrics:

For Tillie, her lyrics reflect the unexpected loss of close family members. Raised as a Shambhala Buddhist, Tillie's lyrics are riddled with references to the practices and ideas of Shambhala. Though dealing with weighty events, Tillie infuses her spirituality into the music, resulting in an added lightness that gives a sense of healing, an astounding sense of calm, and an outright mystical quality. For Marc, dealing with the loss of a different type of relationship, his lyrics touch on a twisted coming of age and late night hedonism, focusing on creating scenes for characters dealing with disillusionment and heartbreak.

While the album's release is still a ways off, you can now stream the track "Undream a Year," the record's closing track and lead single, at the bottom of the page.

In a statement, Valleys said of the song, "'Undream A Year' is about waking up one day and wanting a do-over for the last few years of your life. It's also a re-interpretation of Good Will Hunting."

Also, Valleys have several North American shows coming up, including a pair of concerts in Toronto and one in Montreal. You can see that schedule below.
