Unalaska are almost ready to unveil their self-titled debut EP, but before it lands next month, Exclaim! is treating your ears to the North American premiere of the two-piece's latest tune "Air Transylvania."
As previously reported, the group pairs Edo Van Breemen's background in Brasstronaut and film scoring with Zachary Gray's guitar pop sensibilities from the Zolas into an exciting new sound. And while they may have originated as a fictional band in the cult vampire flick Afflicted, the musical companionship stuck around and has grown into something totally real.
Unalaska was pieced together between Van Breemen's and Gray's respective Brooklyn and Vancouver homesteads, creating what a press release describes as a mixing of "the two's seemingly disparate styles into a spooky, loopy, chorused-out post-cinematic groove."
That sound shines through on "Air Transylvania," featuring descriptive lyrics delivered with gloomy vocals atop haunting music that leaves the listener unsettled and intrigued. Give it a listen in the player below.
Unalaska is out digitally on October 16 (and on vinyl as of November 13) through Light Organ. The EP can be pre-ordered here.
