U2 Make 3D Film

BY Dave SynyardPublished Dec 20, 2007

Dublin’s favourite band, U2, are at it again. No, they’re not attempting to build another sky scraper, rather they are bringing their live performance to 3D digital and IMAX 3D theatres with U2 3D, a first of its kind concert film.

The film will premiere at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and opens in Toronto on Friday, January 25, 2008. This first digital 3D music film was created with multiple cameras, real-time productions and illustrates the band’s longstanding utilisation of new technology.

Much of the filming was done in South America during the band’s Vertigo tour, and it will be released by National Geographic Film Ventures. The concert film was produced by 3ality Digital and directed by Catherine Owens, who has been a visual content director for more than 15 years, and Mark Pellington, who directed the video for "One.”
