If one is to tread on sacred ground, one should do so with care and respect, not Trunk's clunky "off kilter" formula. The transgressors have taken the Flaming Lip's psychedelic framework, added some of that carnival Zappa feel and blasphemed. They are not sweethearts (the strangled attempt is painful), yet they do-ti-do through songs about rainbows and bugs. The guitars are simple and perfunctory, rarely accomplishing more than the bare minimum. They spice thing up with strings, tuba and Casio with sporadic success. They must have procured some sort of following or that next new thing industry thrust, for they were able to get Jim Waters (Jon Spencer, Sonic Youth) to help produce this one. Hope he got paid well, cause this disturbed pop mars his reputation.
