Trikl Act

A Spatial Plot Thickens

BY Roman SokalPublished Mar 1, 2001

Combining psychedelics, mathematics and post-rock schematics, this impressive Calgary, AB, five-piece troupe comes across as being well-exposed of the best of the aforementioned genres, yet still adds a unique twist to the mix without donning too large a wizard's cape. Vocally and conceptually lyric driven, the looseness and texture of the vocals are recorded rough, on the fly and jagged. High e-string guitar melodies twinkle about and there are enough tempo changes to stimulate and exercise those dormant fraction-calculating skills that you thought were long forgotten. This bunch is definitely into the whole Fugazi, June of 44, Mogwai trip.
