Ottawa-based audio-visual trio A Tribe Called Red made the shift from the club to your stereo by releasing a self-titled album last year. This spring, the DJs — who mix electronic music with elements of their First Nations culture — will return with Nation II Nation, which is due out on May 7 through Pirates Blend Records/Tribal Spirit Music.
A press release notes that A Tribe Called Red's music is "EDM that pounds with traditional drumming, reggae's pulse and sway, and dubstep beats." For a taste of what this sounds like, stream the rhythmic "The Road" below. According to a SoundCloud description, the song was released "in solidarity with Idle No More and Chief Theresa Spence."
A Tribe Called Red will be hitting the road in North America this spring and summer. The initial dates are in the U.S. and there's also a brief trip to Europe before the group return to Canada for a string of festival dates during the summer.
