Toe

Variant

Some neo-terminology will undoubtedly be generated to describe Toe's music: post-lounge, post-light jazz, post-Tortoise, etc. Led by drummer David Pavkovic, the ensemble features Tortoise alumni Doug McCombs and Jeff Parker on bass and guitar. Rounding out the quartet is Yoko Noge, providing vocals that cycle from a breathy European torch model to her Beatle-busting namesake's compact Asian skree. The pieces are evenly divided between more abstract IDM-flavoured electronics and the now-trademark Chicago post-rock sound: smooth and muscular organic rhythms. Sure to be pleasing to any number of music camps.
