Toddla T and MC Serocee from Sheffield show us the underground of that town on this recent Fabriclive compilation. As Toddla T grinds his way through track after track, he brings flavours a plenty: a little of this and a little of that, as is the 2009 way of electronic music. Rooted in dancehall, ragga, grime and techno, Toddla's sounds frame themselves effortlessly with a constant percussive and bass-happy foundation. Original track "Anaconda Safe" demonstrates Toddla's ease and chemistry with vocalists and vocal samples in the studio. His "Pull Up Mi Portion" features ultra-tight calypso vocals contrasted with bored English guy vocals on the subject of how delicious food is. Those who lose interest in party music should be brought back around by unshakeable vocal tracks from Roots Manuva and Alex Mills, amongst many more. Solid CD opener "Love Action" by Philly (cued in by Serocee) is worth doing yourself the favour of ordering this record.
