Remix albums are de rigueur these days, but more often than not they just seem like a hackneyed attempt by labels desperate for new revenue streams to combat their descent into the financial doldrums rather than a worthwhile musical endeavour. Thankfully, this is not the case with Agitated. Legends of the highly unique Sheffield electronic scene, frequent Pulp collaborator Ross Orton and DJ Pipes have taken the Steel City native son Toddla T's typically exuberant production, reined in the bombast and turned the dub sonics up to 11. If the original Watch Me Dance project was influenced by the Dancehall styling of Bounty Killer and the two-step beats and bass of Zed Bias, Agitated sounds more akin to the downbeat and ethereal sounds of King Tubby and Plastikman, while still retaining the club destroying ethos that makes Watch Me Dance so invigorating. Highly recommended.
