Thoughts on 2008: Andrew Bird

Published Dec 25, 2008

To tide us over while we indulge in the holiday spirit gorging on stuffing and egg nog, we asked a bunch of musicians to tell us their thoughts on 2008. Some of them replied with lists of their favourite music, some told us their fondest memories and some came up with much more creative ways to commemorate this past year.

Andrew Bird reflected on the five best days off he had while touring:

1. Moab, Utah: I bought a mountian bike and road it into the sandstone desert in the middle of the afternoon when everyone told me not to. The stone heats up to 120 degree in the midday sun, and I almost expired.

2. Hiking in Tepoztlan, Mexico.

3. Ithaca, NY: I found a sweet bike trail in October, on the last warm day of the year. Fall colors.

4. NYC: I borrowed a bike in October and rode from Chelsea down the west side highway and across the Brooklyn Bridge to Carroll Gardens on a jalopy cruiser to deliver some album mixes.

5) Berlin: In November, hanging out with a friend in the east, having leisurely, cheap, delicious breakfasts.
