The Tourist Company Announce 'Mercury' EP, Premiere New Track

Having shared a video for new cut "Shouldn't Believe" late last year, Vancouver indie-pop outfit the Tourist Company have now revealed that the track is part of a new release set to arrive at the end of this month.

Titled Mercury, the EP contains six tracks that the band say hint at the cinematic nature of an upcoming full-length album. Recorded in two halves over a 12-month period, the band worked with engineers Daniel Klenner (Hey Ocean) at the Space Studios and Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge) at Echoplant Studios. The EP was produced by Jordan Klassen and mixed by Colin Stewart (Yukon Blonde, Hannah Georgas).

"I get lost in describing life through metaphors and the one that's stuck with me the most as a writer lately has been the parallels between creating music in the modern world and venturing into the unknown of outer space," vocalist Taylor Swindells said of the EP. "Mercury was the name given to the space program that paved the way for the Apollo missions. We wanted to create an EP that would set the tone for our full album. It isn't the full story. It's more like a prologue for what we want to say next."

For now, you can check out the release's new track "Budget Meeting." With Mercury set to arrive on April 29, read through the EP's tracklisting and hear the new single in the player below, where you'll also find the group's upcoming Canadian dates.
