In 2001, the Shins released Oh, Inverted World, and in 2022, they'll celebrate the album's rise to American legal drinking age by taking it on a tour of North America.
In addition to sharing its 21st birthday cake with us today — check out the yummy confectionary below — the band have also detailed plans of the tour that will bring them across the continent this July, August and September, playing their debut album front-to-back along the way.
The trek will kick off on the West Coast, hitting several Calforinian dates in mid-July, before weaving back east. Shows in Montreal and Toronto are scheduled for August 29 and 30, respectively, plus the band plan to hit Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre on September 14. Everything wraps up in Portland on September 16. Joseph will join the group on select dates.
Bandleader James Mercer previously said of the album:
This record gave me the life that I never really dreamed I would have. It opened me up to the whole world and gave me validation. It's also something that stands as a bit of a pinnacle for our band. You release that first record and it's so well embraced, but you're always trying to get that magic back, I think ... It's a special moment when you're a new band and you've got what was apparently kind of a new sound. This record symbolized a very special moment in my life, a watershed moment for sure.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on May 20, while a presale can be accessed via the group's tour website.
