King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard offshoot the Murlocs have shared details of their forthcoming seventh studio album Calm Ya Farm. It's arriving through ATO on May 19, and today, the band have shared its lead single.

"Initiative" — which arrives alongside a music video directed by Guy Tyzack — is about "recognizing the need to start taking responsibility for your life instead of always living in the now and killing all your brain cells along the way," according to bandleader Ambrose Kenny-Smith.

"Not everyone wants the big family and the big house with the white picket fence," he continued. "Everything happens for a reason and sometimes you need to take things more seriously and make a few power moves in life to find out what comes next in the crystal ball."

Billed as the band's most collaborative work to date, Calm Ya Farm finds the group moving "away from all the distortion and dirt and grit, or at least let the grit come off a bit more clean-sounding," as Kenny-Smith explained in a release. It's said to incorporate flute, flamenco guitar and Farfisa tones.

As for that title? It's "something my partner always says to me when I'm feeling stressed-out or anxious. It made sense with the whole country theme of the record, but it's generally a good reminder for day-to-day life. Now whenever I look down, I can remember to just chill out and take everything a little easier."

Watch the video for "Initiative" below, where you'll also find the album's tracklisting.

Last September, the Murlocs released their excellent sixth studio record Rapscallion, which they brought to Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver on tour with them in the fall.
