Avant-garde electronic act the KLF garnered a reputation for wild antics during their run in the 1980s and '90s, pulling off stunts like firing rounds of machine gun blanks into their audience, delivering a dead sheep to a 1992 BRIT Awards afterparty and setting £1 million on fire on a boathouse in Scotland in 1994. And it seems the duo (composed of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty) are keeping things as weird as ever, thanks to a mysterious new message that could be hinting at a 2017 reunion.
The band are known to have drawn inspiration from Robert Shea's The Illuminatus! Trilogy, a book detailing the 23 enigma — a theory that places importance on the number 23 and whose subscribers believe that most incidents and events directly correlate to that number. Now, 23 years on from the infamous money-burning stunt, a documentary bizarrely titled KLF 01 01 2017 WTF FOUND VHS has been unearthed.
The video clip was shared along with the following cryptic message:

On 01/01/1987 Bill Drummond said to Jimmy Cauty "LET'S FORM A BAND CALL 'THE JUSTIFIED ANCIENTS OF MU MU'"
On 23/08/1994 The K Foundation burnt one million quid.
2017-1994 = 23
The message makes reference to a number of monikers that Drummond and Cauty released music under, ending on a hopeful note for fans that have been waiting on a substantial follow-up to the 1994 incident (which was later turned into a film aptly titled Watch the K Foundation Burn a Million Quid).
It's unclear exactly what might be in the works for the KLF (or whatever banner Drummond and Cauty might be working under), but something's definitely up.
