It's Official: There's No Headphone Jack on the iPhone 7

It may take some time for music fans to adapt to the news, but following months of rumours, Apple announced today (September 7) that their forthcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models have phased out the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The tech giant formally rolled out the info on the next round of iPhones today, confirming as long had been suspected that they don't feature a standard headphone jack. Instead, you'll now have to grab a set of headphones with a Lightning connector, much like their charging cables, to plug into the body proper.

While this may be disappointing to legions of iPhone users that prefer off-brand headphone experiences, don't go throwing away your buds just yet. An adapter will be included so you can still use your 3.5mm headphones with the iPhone 7.

Additionally, it was revealed that the next iPhone will be the first to be packaged with the new AirPods wireless headphones. The buds feature an infrared sensor that can detect whether or not they're in your ears, and will only turn on when you pop them in. The AirPods will be available in October.

In addition to those audio tweaks, new features for the iPhone 7 include dual camera system on the 7 Plus, stereo speakers, and longer battery life. Underwater bathroom selfies are now go as well, as the new iPhones are water resistant. You can get all the tech specs over here.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus go on sale September 9, while the phones are expected to hit Apple stores on September 16.
