Brisbane trio the Goon Sax are calling it quits, sharing that they plan to "draw the curtain on this band" after nine years together.

In a statement shared on their social media, the band explained that they're cancelling all upcoming shows — including runs with Spoon and Pavement — but plan to play two farewell shows in Australia.

In the statement, they called the breakup "bittersweet," writing that "for us it feels like a happy ending." Read the whole thing below.

To all friends of the Goon Sax we have some bittersweet news…after nine years of giving it our everything we've decided to draw the curtain on this band. It's taken us places stranger, more beautiful, and far beyond anything we could have imagined, and brought us to meeting and working with so many special and incredibly inspiring people. Our gratitude to everyone who's been with us and allowed the madness of the last 9 years to happen is far beyond anything we can palpably express. Although this means we won't be doing our US tour anymore, including the Interpol & Spoon tour and the Pavement shows, we promise we will play one or two more shows in Australia before we finally say goodnight. For us it feels like a happy ending. We love each other and we love you! thank you for everything ♥️♥️♥️
Riley, Louis & Jim

Louis Forster and Hames Harrison formed the Goon Sax as teenagers in 2013, with drummer and songwriter Riley Jones joining a year later. They released their gentle, bouncy debut album Up to Anything in 2016, followed by 2018's We're Not Talking. In 2021, they signed to Matador and released their fantastic third record Mirror II, which saw them expand their sound, incorporating electronics and a post-punk intensity.

It's a shame to say goodbye to such a promising band, but it'll be cool to see what the individual members come up with next. For now, go check out their small but mighty discography and revisit last year's "In the Stone" below.
