Jay Som's Melina Duterte and Palehound's Ellen Kempner formed their Bachelor project earlier this year, and in celebration of their debut album Doomin' Sun, the pair have enlisted practically all of indie rock for a massive telethon/release party they've dubbed Doomin' Sun Fest.
Taking place on June 10 at 6 p.m. ET, event hosts Duterte and Kempner will unite the likes of Courtney Barnett, Andy Shauf, Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, Tegan and Sara, Sylvan Esso, Big Thief's Adrianne Lenker, Jeff Tweedy, Japanese Breakfast, Julien Baker, Tank and the Bangas, Soccer Mommy, Lucy Dacus and many more for the massive virtual release party. The event will culminate in Bachelor's first-ever live concert shot and directed by Haoyan of America.
While Doomin' Sun Fest is free to attend for everyone, Bachelor have suggested donating to Seeding Sovereignty — an Indigenous-led collective working to "radicalize and disrupt colonized spaces through land, body, and food sovereignty work, community building and cultural preservation." Bachelor hope to uplift the organization's goals and use the event as an opportunity to gather for "community, compassion, climate and celebration."
"Basically we just wanna have fun celebrating our album release, raise funds for Seeding Sovereignty, and get people excited about donating and opening their hearts to themes of the fest — the "4 C's" as we call them — that are driving this endeavour," Duterte and Kempner said of the event in a joint statement.
