A little over two years removed from their 2014 effort Happiness Is, Long Island post-hardcore crew Taking Back Sunday have announced their seventh studio album. Titled Tidal Wave, the set of new tunes will come crashing ashore this September.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, frontman Adam Lazzara revealed the record was written in between tours for Happiness Is, and was inspired by records from the likes of Tom Petty and Bryan Adams. That said, he doesn't see it as a complete departure from the band's sound.
"We realize anything we do is going to sound like Taking Back Sunday," he told the publication. "In my mind every album anyone's ever written is an emo album because there's a lot of emotion that goes into all of that...I don't like being pigeonholed because I think there's more to it than that. I think this record highlights that very well, so no I wouldn't consider it an emo record in the traditional sense of the word."
He continued, "With our first records, we're writing from the perspective of 17-, 18-year-old kids. As you grow older the blinders get pulled back and you have a different way of looking at the world around you."
Tidal Wave will arrive on September 16 through Hopeless Records. The band have been performing the title track of the record live in recent sets, which you can see fan-shot footage of below.
