Super Numeri

Great Aviaries

BY Andy LeePublished Jan 1, 2006

Like Toronto indie darlings Broken Social Scene, Liverpool’s Super Numeri consists of an ever-changing roster of musicians that produces works of understated, atmospheric beauty. By augmenting the traditional rock’n’roll nucleus with woodwinds, harp, and a string ensemble, Super Numeri create the ideal vehicle for simultaneously exploring the worlds of jazz, dub, and ambient electronica. Mystical opener "The Electric Horse Garden” is a languid, mind-expanding odyssey filled with shimmering, reverb-laden guitars slowly cascading over a gently pulsing beat. At times, Super Numeri invoke the spirit of Bitches Brew-era Miles Davis, but they have enough skill and sense to innovate, not replicate. Get ready to shiver.
