Summer Hymns

Voice Brother and Sister

BY Mike BurrowsPublished May 1, 2000

Yet another band worth its salt from Athens, Georgia. This loose and peaceful debut production comes and leaves unheralded and unnoticed. Why then has it stayed in my carousel for three weeks straight? Lead man Zachary Gresham, with help from five other mates, has spun a purified, tuneful and nicely approachable album. Two of the members are shared with Of Montreal, but none of the Montrealer's childishness followed with them. The folky steps of "Stick Your Tail In The Wind," pop-psych wonders of "New Underdressment" and "Miriam Moon..." add a countrified lick here or there. What else could you ask for?
