Pop-punk lifers Sum 41 released Order in Decline two years ago, closing out the LP with a song called "Catching Fire." They've now revisited the track while frontman Deryck Whibley has opened up about its incredibly severe subject matter.
To raise awareness for Mental Health Awareness Month, the band have shared a new version of the song that features added guest vocals from nothing,nowhere. The song also arrives with a touching new video that sees Sum 41 fans open up about loved ones they've lost to suicide.
In a press release, Whibley explained that the song was inspired by his wife Ari's attempted suicide in 2013.
"Writing this song was cathartic for me in dealing with my emotions for the first time about almost losing my wife to suicide," he said. "When I first played it for her, it was the beginning of us having an open conversation about what she went through. In sharing her story, we are hoping to let others know they are not alone and that if you need help, there is no shame in saying so."
Speaking with People, Ari also opened up about the harrowing experience.
"This is something that I live with every day. It's something that he lives with every day," she said. "It's something that is very tangible in our lives. But keeping it between us isn't going to do us any more favors. We've grown and learned everything we can from this experience."
