Growing up in Canada, you could always count on a few things being there through thick and thin. Hockey Night in Canada, that late night cartoon about Sam McGee and the music of Stompin' Tom Connors. Even if you weren't familiar with his tunes, his very existence kind of makes us adult Canadians feel relaxed and comfortable. And those who do love the man's tunes will no doubt be excited to hear that the septuagenarian is going to be hitting the road this summer for a Canadian tour.
The set of live dates kicks off on July 31 in Thunder Bay, ON and finishes 13 cities later in Fort McMurray, AB, on September 4. The dates have a heavy emphasis on Western Canada and will mark Connors's first time playing BC in six years.
Tickets for all shows go on sale today (June 4). Go to Connors's website for ticket information.
Connors has now been playing music for an astonishing 46 years. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Toronto Musicians Union last month. The guy's been the subject of a theatrical play, two autobiographies and a postage stamp; in a nutshell, he's the man..
Connors' last album was 2008's The Ballad of Stompin' Tom.
