Stars Uncover Lost Recordings for 'The Bedroom Demos'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 7, 2011

It's been nearly a year since Canadian indie pop sensations Stars released their fifth album The Five Ghosts, and though they did treat us with the weird, NSFW video for "Changes," it's definitely felt like an eternity since we had anything new from the band. Fortunately, they have emerged with a new-old album called The Bedroom Demos.

As the album title suggests, The Bedroom Demos is composed of demos originally made in 2006. Not actually recorded in a bedroom, they were recorded with the Besnard Lakes' Jace Lasek at Breakglass Studios in Montreal but ultimately scrapped. The band went on to record 2007's In Our Bedroom After the War instead.

Earlier this year, Stars were home from tour and discovered the tapes, deciding that it was time to release them. The album includes all 12 tracks originally recorded for the album, as well as two bonus cuts.

The Bedroom Demos was released today (June 7) via Arts & Crafts. The full album will be available for a stream in our Click Hear section starting tomorrow (June 8), but right now you give it a spin below and download the "The Worst Thing (Whitey Jam)" in the widget at the bottom of the page. You can purchase the digital release here.

In addition to the new release, Stars will partake in NXNE by playing Yonge-Dundas Square on June 17 in Toronto, where they will also play a secret show in the next day.

Thanks to Pitchfork for the tip.
