The Soupcans

'Parasite Brain' (EP stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 14, 2013

A year removed from the release of last year's debut album, Good Feelings, Toronto punks Soupcans are back with a new EP. The awesomely titled Parasite Brain arrives on November 19 through Telephone Explosion (with the U.S. released handled by Jackshack), and it's available to stream in full on Exclaim.ca.

The band's press materials describe the EP as "six more tunes about mental problems, dental hygiene, futuristic dystopias and altered consciousnesseses. So what else is new?"

All of the songs are crushingly heavy and laced with distortion and manic yells. Most of the tunes are fast and furiously energetic, although the sprawling "Crimes of the Future, Pt. II" — which takes up more than a third of the EP's 10-minute runtime — takes a slower and more doom-filled approach to noise.
