Sorcery

PS3

The Playstation 3's Move peripheral was Sony's way of splitting the difference between the Nintendo's motion-sensing Wii-mote and Microsoft's camera-based and controller-free Xbox Kinect. But it felt, well, peripheral ― like a box to check off rather than an intrinsic part of the PS3. This could be why there were subsequently so few games that took advantage of it. Sorcery is the first title, beyond the requisite sports mini-game compilation, to really take advantage of its capabilities.

Much like light sabres, magic wands are perfect fits for motion gaming and the Workshop has put together a charming fantasy action title that (finally) makes great use of the Move. Being a sorcerer's apprentice, even the learning curve makes sense, story-wise. The story itself is fairly boilerplate ― evil queen threatens the realm and only a fledgling young magician can stave off eternal night by battling trolls, bogeys and other monsters from Irish folklore. It's not a game that will go down in legend, but it does perform the neat magic trick of getting you to pick your Move controller back up.
