'The Fallen Sun' (album stream)

Toronto death metal outfit Sludgehammer are ready to unleash their debut full-length The Fallen Sun, on the world this month, and before the record officially arrives, Exclaim! has your first listen to the entire thing right here.

Featuring 11 tracks of the group's punishing brand of death metal, the relentless instrumentation serves as a perfect fit for lyrical work concerned with individualistic pursuits of survival and satisfaction, both part of an overarching concept for the record.

"The Fallen Sun is about the rebirth of humanity," vocalist Chris Szarota tells Exclaim! "It takes place in a distant future, where the world's wealthiest families have become immortal. These immortals have built a utopia for their followers and destroyed all who opposed. Then in humanity's ashes, isolated social evolution occurs.

"A new plateau of animalistic evil will emerge, frothing at their mouth for survival. Each song will delve you further into this society and YOU as the listener will decide who's side you are on: the immortals, struggling to maintain their status, or the new species hell bent on revenge."

The Fallen Sun officially arrives on June 10, but before then, scroll through the tracklisting and take a listen to the record in its entirety in the player below.
