Sled Island Gets Andrew W.K. and the Dudes' Danny Vacon as Guest Curators

It's still too early to tell who will be playing this year's instalment of Sled Island, which runs June 20 to 23, but the Calgary music festival has just announced two curators that will help schedule some showcases. Just like the event's balance of out-of-town artists and homegrown locals, 2012 curators Andrew W.K. and the Dudes' Danny Vacon have been plucked from both sides of the spectrum.

Acclaimed party rocker Andrew W.K. doesn't need much of an introduction at this point, but one can only assume that the sweat-stained musician will amp up the crowds with his decisions. A press release form Sled expects he'll "create feelings of pure joy, fun, love, freedom, and possibility," via his inclusions.

If W.K. brings in the big guns (which of course remains to be seen), Vacon's presence should in theory highlight handfuls of Alberta's best. A scene veteran, the local troubadour has been playing the local circuit with the Dudes since the '90s.

No festival acts have been hinted at just yet, but no doubt a swell of musicians, visual artists, comedians and more will be named in the months to come. For a taste of what's to come, you can watch a trailer for the 2012 fest below.
