"Annette Bening"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 22, 2016

Last year, Ontario indie popsters the Elwins released their latest LP Play for Keeps, and they'll be taking it on the road alongside Tokyo Police Club and Born Ruffians later this summer. Before that gets underway, though, Travis Stokl from the band is set to debut his latest solo offering under the moniker sivarT.

Keen observers will notice the backwards wordplay in the name, but the music itself is slightly more straightforward, and "Annette Bening" serves as a perfectly palatable introductory single from sivarT's upcoming ¢ EP. An ode to the titular Hollywood actress, the song opens as a simple folk ditty, but surges into lush, orchestral territory midway through with additional instrumentation and angelic vocal harmonies.

¢ was written over the course of a few years, lakeside in Keswick, ON. Stokl recorded the six songs with producer John Southworth last summer, and they'll finally arrive digitally on July 15. Right now, though, you can listen to the premiere of "Annette Bening."
