Shimmering Stars Reveal 'Bedrooms of the Nation'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 6, 2014

Last fall, Vancouver indie pop players Shimmering Stars promised that their album Bedrooms of the Nation would be out this spring. Although it's a little later than expected, the sophomore effort will arrive on August 13.

The album was recorded at the band's own Garage Mahal studio in Kamloops, BC. It was mixed by studio guru Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Black Mountain, the New Pornographers).

According to a press release, the results inhabit the "intersection of timeless pop, experimental soundscapes and punk sensibilities." It's apparently a dark, bleak-sounding record with hints of bright optimism.

Scroll past the tracklist and live schedule below to hear "Dérèglement." It's fuzzy guitars suggest a darker sound than 2011's Violent Hearts.
