Texas indie outfit Shearwater are gearing up to release Fellow Travelers, a collection of covers, later this month. Now, they've treated their cover of Xiu Xiu's "I Luv the Valley OH!" to a music video and announced a North American tour.
The video for the song sees two astronauts (one of which is played by the band's own Jonathan Meiburg) try to make the most of being lost on a planet (that looks an awful lot like a dusty desert). The video was directed by Branan Edgens.
Of the cover, Meiburg said in a statement, "Xiu Xiu's deeply anxious song always seemed like it wanted to be a big rock anthem to me, so we decided to go for it and blow it out.... I love how this song — about imploring a partner to take Mifeprex, I'm pretty sure — seems to explode and implode at the same time, a state of ecstatic terror Jamie's music often inhabits and lurks in a lot of my songs, too."
The group also have a hefty slate of tour dates booked. Set to kick off in early 2014, the run of shows includes dates all over America and Europe, plus Canadian stops in Vancouver and Toronto. Check out the full itinerary below.
Fellow Travelers will be available on November 26 via Sub Pop.
