Shadowbug 4

Tiny Voices of Love and Fear

BY David LewisPublished Oct 1, 1999

Randy Greig creates moody audio art soundscapes and sonic poems. “Room with Voice” merges industrial loops with vocal samples and the sound of someone’s panting. “Become One” and “You Can Come Down” are as close as Shadowbug 4 ever gets to producing dance grooves; the real drama happens during the merger of wordless vocal chant and synthesiser in “Breather,” and the eerie layers of goth-drone and slow, atmospheric oscillation in the insidious “No, I Swear...Look at My Tongue,” which builds slowly until ultimately every cell sounds infected.
