Secret Satanists Unveil Debut LP, Premiere "Grab the Phone" Video

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 7, 2017

Teenage Kicks' Jeff van Helvoort debuted his Secret Satanists project back in 2015, releasing Session One, logically followed by Session Two and Session Three last year. Now, those three releases have been combined and tweaked to form the band's debut LP, A Very Sharp Decline: Greatest Hits 2016-2016. It will get a vinyl and digital release on April 28 via London, ON's Get Party! Records.

The tongue-in-cheek titled set features the 12 tracks total, pulling from the aforementioned EPs, but also adding in a few previously unreleased tunes. It was primarily self-recorded by van Helvoort and his bandmates Jared Macintyre and Riley Simpson in "the dank basement of a 1950s semi-detached house in Toronto."

The first single off the upcoming LP is called "Grab the Phone," and Exclaim! is giving you the first look at its brand new accompanying video. The totally retro visuals capture a skeleton roaming the streets of a virtual city, being met with reactions that range from shock and fear to total indifference.

"I created something that I feel is indicative of how we all feel sometimes," van Helvoort tells Exclaim! "It's that feeling that we're like a skeleton just chasing people around as they either faint/collapse or just dance and ignore the commotion. I tried to also inflect a feeling of compassion from the skeleton, but 1995's Microsoft Movie Maker didn't have an action for that, unfortunately."
