Second

Awake for an Hour

This Vancouver-based act has a decidedly British sound. Citing Radiohead as an influence, these eight songs all have a decidedly "Street Spirit” quality. Each one rises and falls in lush, minor key glory, and they are richly textured with depth and sadness. Together for only two years, Second have developed a sound that exudes maturity, and one that many of their peers would be envious of. Each song is a hauntingly epic, with a backdrop of rich, ambient guitars that emit just the right amounts of noise. Doves and the Stone Roses also prove to have had an influence on Second’s sound, but more for their dynamic yet depressing stylings than their dance floor hits. This is a striking debut that is likely to snatch up more than just a few fans.
