When Do We Start Fighting...

BY Amber AuthierPublished Jun 1, 2002

Seafood is a London, England-based four-piece that recorded a CD in Brooklyn with Girls Against Boys' Eli Janney at the production board. When Do We Start Fighting...is what came out of the four-week session. The disc has the same smooth melodic Britpop feel that continues to build huge audiences for groups like Travis and Belle and Sebastian, and like other UK contemporaries, Seafood has penned songs that are bloated with catchy yet simple lyrics. Lead track "Splinter" uses those lyrics to blend the harmonies of lead vocalist David Line and with the backing vocals of drummer Caroline Banks. Unlike a number of similar bands, Seafood doesn't overuse the female vocals, and when they do, Banks is often used to crank the volume of the track up a notch or two. Geek anthem "Western Battle" and party starter "Cloaking" all feature the pleasant screams of Banks. As a whole, When Do We Start Fighting... is a fun disc.
