Sea Perry

'Do What You Do' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 14, 2015

Hailing from Sudbury, ON, folk-rock trio Sea Perry are set to unveil their debut LP Do What You Do next week, but you can listen to it with Exclaim! right now.

Composed of pals Chris Milligan (guitar/vocals), Chad Bouchard (drums) and Shawn Fisher (bass), the three-piece have played at festivals like Boots and Hearts, Big Music Fest and the Northern Lights Festival, and now they're ready to follow up their 2013 Why the Folk Not EP with their first full-length effort.

The band recorded the new album at Phase One Studios in Toronto, working with producer/engineer Michael Jack (Rush, Big Sugar, the Trews).

We previously heard lead single and album opener "Molly's Shoes," and the bubbly, fast-paced energy of that track carries through on the rest of the new record. The group's folk-pop sound gets injected with a bit of rock'n'roll attitude thanks to crunchy guitars and stomp-along percussion on tracks like "Lion" and "Nowhere to Go," while "Oh My Love" softens things up a bit, and the grand finale of "Train Conductor" brings back the "ooh-ooh-ooh's" that kicked off the 10-song collection.

In a statement, the band explains. "Do What You Do is what we've bled for these last two years. Every aspect of our lives has been put in turmoil to make this happen, and when all is said and done it has strengthened our resolve."

Do What You Do offers up a fun, upbeat platter of pop-rock gems, and while it doesn't officially land until April 21, you can give it an early listen in the player below.
