Toronto's SATE has forged a fiery blend of blues and rock'n'roll on her debut single "Warrior."
The song, which pairs shredding guitar riffs with a straight-ahead rhythm section and the vocalist's commanding voice, was released today (April 15) to coincide with the birthday of blues legend Bessie Smith.
"What better day to release 'Warrior,' than the birthdate of warrior, trailblazer and one of my inspirations, Bessie Smith — Empress of the Blues," SATE said in a press release. "The blues is the foundation, the starting point of my music. It's a place to be wild, fearless and celebrate your inner warrior."
"Warrior" can be streamed in full below, while Torontonians can catch SATE at the Dakota Tavern every Sunday night this month.
"Warrior" marks the debut single from SATE's Red, Black & Blue EPs.
