Montreal native Sarah Linhares will be dropping her debut album later this year, but as an appetizer she has prepared her digital-only Messages From the Future EP. An alumni of the 2007 Red Bull Music Academy that took place in Toronto, Linhares' soothing voice and strident lyrics are ideal bedfellows for the progressive futuristic soul soundscapes of her music.
On "Step Up," Linhares rides the intricate sonic flourishes and drum programming of fellow Public Transit Recordings artist Moonstarr to deliver a track that induces both infectious body movement and the rumination of Richard Florida's ideas with her insistent "Watch out for the creative class!" mission statement.
