Sam Gendel has announced a new album on which he has reimagined the music of R&B greats. The Los Angeles musician will share Cookup on February 24 via Nonesuch.

Recorded in California with Los Angeles bassist Gabe Noel and Canadian percussionist Philippe Melanson (Bernice), the 12-track Cookup features reinterpretations of songs by 112, Ginuwine, Aaliyah, All-4-One, Soul 4 Real, Beyoncé, Joe, Erykah Badu, Mario, SWV (as a medley!), and Boyz II Men, originally released between 1992 and 2004

Gendel, Noel and Melanson previously approached jazz standards in similar fashion for the bandleader's 2020 LP Satin Doll, which also arrived via Nonesuch.

The first of the trio's versions to arrive is a cover of 112's "Anywhere" featuring Meshell Ndegeocello, which you can hear below.

Cookup:

1. Differences
2. Anywhere (feat. Meshell Ndegeocello)
3. Are You That Somebody
4. I Swear
5. Candy Rain
6. In Those Jeans
7. Crazy in Love
8. I Wanna Know
9. Didn't Cha Know
10. Let Me Love You
11. SWV Medley
12. Water Runs Dry
