Sainte Catherines

The Art of Arrogance

BY Rob FerrazPublished Aug 1, 2003

The second full-length from Montreal’s Sainte Catherines falls somewhat short of the potential they exhibited on their excellent EP, The Machine Gets Underway. That’s not to say this record isn’t good. It still towers over much of what’s out there and may take a couple of listens to warm up to. Their sound is evolving and has more of a metallic edge to it, likely because of multiple line-up changes. They now have three guitarists, which adds to the layered sound. They still have a raw but melodic style that’s appealing and if the current line-up gels, then we can expect better things from them. A portion of the proceeds goes to an organisation that fights for the rights of Montreal sex workers.
