BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Feb 26, 2016

Having been fairly silence since the release of PRhyme and loosie "T.D.M.T.L.T.A.," Royce Da 5'9" (now apparently styled Royce 5'9") has shared the details behind his forthcoming sixth studio album. Marking his first solo project in nearly five years, Layers is set to arrive this spring.

Speaking with Ambrosia for Heads, the Detroit rap veteran explained that the new album is a "reintroduction to Royce 5'9" but also an introduction to Ryan Montgomery."

"This album is actually the first 'layer' of many that will be revealed this year," he said. "By the end of 2016, I want people to really get a chance to know me."

Layers looks to build upon the numerous different musical masks Royce has worn in working as Slaughterhouse, Bad Meets Evil and PRhyme.

"Sound-wise, it's different from my other sounds or album feels of my other groups," he continued. "I don't want to give too much away but lyricism and content is always an important factor in every album that I'm a part of. This album was the first album that I spent a lot of time putting it together as a complete thought."

In addition to the announcement, Royce has released the first in a series of videos exploring the album's lyrical work by spitting bars a cappella. The first instalment, showcasing a verse from a song titled "Hard," shows him examining his personal struggles, lofty goals and his ability to stay afloat in an ever-changing genre and industry.

Layers is slated to arrive April 15 through Bad Half Entertainment. While awaiting more details on the new LP, watch Royce's breakdown of "Hard" in the player below.
