Winnipeg indie-pop ensemble Royal Canoe have been known to mix a number of genres in their music, especially on their recent LP, Today We're Believers. But this time the enigmatic six-piece has decided to tone things down for a chilled-out rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Is This What You Wanted?"
Originally recorded in 1974 for Cohen's classic fourth studio album, New Skin for the Old Ceremony, the boys in Royal Canoe take the Canadian songwriter's off-kilter rhythms and flamenco guitar playing and morph them into an incredibly funky track complete with falsetto vocals and bass-rattling keyboards.
