Hard rock bassist Craig Gruber had been active since the '70s, but his long career has come to an end, as he has lost his battle with prostate cancer. He passed away on Tuesday (May 5) at the age of 63.
Gruber was a member of Ronnie James Dio's band Elf, and he played with Dio and guitarist Richie Blackmore as a founding member of Rainbow. He played on the 1975 debut Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, but wasn't on subsequent albums.
Additionally, Gruber was part of the sessions for Black Sabbath's 1980 album Heaven and Hell, but he was left off the final recordings when bassist Geezer Butler returned to the lineup.
At other points in his career, Gruber was part of Gary Moore's backing band and co-founded the project Bible Black. In the later years of his career, he was in acts like ED3N, Raven Lord and Zvekan.
