Shoegaze vets Ride returned with Weather Diaries earlier this year, marking their first new album in more than two decades. Now, "Cali" from the LP has been given the visual treatment.
The Niall Trask-directed video follows the previously shared clip for "All I Want," and it depicts the sunshine and surf that most associate with the song's titular state. Some extra effects and colourful filters add an additional layer of psychedelia.
In a statement, Ride's Andy Bell said of the video, "'Cali' is a love song which features imagery of California and the ocean, so a video which features a surfing couple was the perfect fit. What I love about the video is that it avoids some of the retro surf film clichés and stays with a contemporary kind of look. The psychedelic nature of the editing is more in line with the Vaporwave aesthetic than '60s psychedelia. What Niall Trask has come up with got an immediate thumbs up from the entire band and is my favourite Ride video to date."
