After calling it quits last year, jazz noir stylists Red Snapper return with one last hurrah. Their latest eponymous effort features seven new tracks that reveal a more refined oeuvre, from the moody, questioning "The Quiet One” to the dub-infused house of "Heavy Petting.” Red Snapper have swapped their urgent intensity for a healthy dose of electronic ambience, resulting in a considerably mellower vibe. The shift is most apparent during the exuberant live version of 1999’s "The Tunnel,” which teeters on the verge of ecstatic explosion at any given moment. In the end, Red Snapper wrap up their career on an ultra-smooth note.
