Record Store Day Is Making More 3-Inch Singles for Your Tiny Turntable

Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and more will be pressed to 3-inch vinyl

For its flagship event earlier this year, Record Store Day brought the 3-inch single to the front of vinyl-collecting consciousness with help from Jack White. Now, organizers behind RSD are set to expand their tiny catalogue of releases with some Sun Records classics.

Four singles from Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison will come to the gimmicky yet charming format on October 18.

Available as a set or individually, the singles mark the golden anniversary of Sun Record Company's move to Nashville in 1969 under the direction of music executive Shelby Singleton.

Singles set for release are Cash's "Cry! Cry! Cry!," Lewis's "Great Balls of Fire," Perkins's "Honey, Don't!" and Orbison's "Devil Doll." Audio for each single was remastered by Sun and ORG Music, with help from Dave Gardner at Infrasonic Sound. Each tiny record features packaging designed by Jonathon Kimbrell and includes a unique fold-out poster.

Of course, these tiny records are tailor made for equally tiny turntables, which don't exactly carry a tiny price tag on resale sites like eBay. Since this year's Record Store Day, 3-inch releases from Beastie Boys, Insane Clown Posse and more have been pressed up.

Record Store Day's 2019 Black Friday event is set to take place November 29. A complete list of exclusive releases for the day has yet to be revealed.
