Nick Knox — known as longtime drummer of influential punk band the Cramps — has passed away. Knox's former bandmates in both Cramps and Electric Eels confirmed he had passed last Thursday (June 14).

As Cleveland.com reports, the drummer's sister confirmed he had passed from cardiogenic shock. According to the report, Knox was 65 (though some other publications have stated his age was 60).

Born Nicholas Stephanoff, Knox first played drums for Electric Eels before joining the Cramps in 1977. He is recognized as the longest-tenured drummer of the group, keeping his post behind the kit until 1991.

Knox's drumming can be heard on the Cramps' first four albums: 1980's Songs the Lord Taught Us, 1981's Psychedelic Jungle, 1986's A Date With Elvis and 1990's Stay Sick!
