You may know singer Coco O. from the star-studded soundtrack to The Great Gatsby, and now she and her band Quadron (also featuring Robin Hannibal from Rhye) are prepping their album Avalanche. It includes a guest spot from rap sensation Kendrick Lamar, who adds a verse to "Better Off."
This soulful and smoothly yacht-friendly cut begins with Coco's breathy vocals, and Kendrick Lamar shows up halfway through to rap a verse. There are some smooth horns and lots of harmonies, making this an exceptionally pleasant soundtrack for sipping a cocktail in the sunshine.
In a statement, Hannibal had this to say about "Better Off": "We only have one feature on our new album, and we are elated that it's Kendrick Lamar. He invited us to collaborate on his own album, and we had such a great time working with him that we asked him if he wanted to be part of our project as well. We are so happy for all his success and we are very proud of this song. We wanted to have more of a fluid song that wasn't too over structured and had a bit of a bedroom/after hours vibe to it."
