Pure X Announce 'Angel,' Map Out North American Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 13, 2014

A year ago today (February 13), we reported that evolving Texas outfit Pure X would be releasing their sophomore album that spring. The band have wasted no time in following it up, since they've revealed that their third album is called Angel. It will be out on May 5 through their new label home of Fat Possum.

This is the group's first album since expanding from a trio into a four-piece. It was recorded to tape over five days at Wied Hall in rural Texas. Its peaceful sound is reportedly a change from past efforts, and the songs showcase what a press release describes as "lush, layered vocal treatments, dialogues of gently plucked electric and strummed 12-string guitar, reserved percussion, and precariously sensual bass."

It's said to be a pop record that touches on two-step country and '70s soul. It was "written collectively between all four members and recorded mostly live with minimal overdubs."

The tracklist is below, along with the band's upcoming North American tour schedule, and the album cover is above. At the bottom of the page, stream the chiming, pastoral "Starlight."
