Plone

For Beginner Piano

BY James KeastPublished Dec 1, 1999

Plone’s whooshing analogue synth sounds will sweep you backwards into a soft pillow of mellow, with melodies so instantly catchy and familiar, it’s hard not to wrack your brain, wondering what ‘60s one-hit-wonder Plone has converted into fodder for the supermarket aisle. Their ethereal cloudliness shares some rarified Air with the likes of Yo La Tengo and Stereolab, as soft vocoder flounces along on waves of bubbling layers of keyboard. They can rock a bossa nova groove that would assure them an opening spot for Esquivel, but this is a trip more appropriate for the sandbox than the space age bachelor pad. Perfect for the hip kindergartener in your life.
